RESULTS
Results delivered for shipowners
We measure our work by the operational reliability and financial improvements delivered across the fleets we support.
Every figure on this page is based on completed NMP engagements.
All results are verified and delivered - not forecasts, projections, or assumed savings.
The cases below highlight four of our core service areas. In each case, the savings are recurring year-on-year, provided the implemented improvements remain in place.
CASE 1:
Manage the Manager
Technical Management
USD 165,000
saved per vessel per year
The situation:
A ship owner with vessels under third-party technical management was experiencing rising OPEX costs, inconsistent maintenance standards, and limited visibility into what their manager was actually delivering. The owners engaged NMP to provide independent supervision and represent their interests.
What we did:
NMP conducted a thorough review of the status qou, examining maintenance records, OPEX budgets, contractor pricing, and planned maintenance compliance. We attended key meetings, challenged costs, renegotiated supplier contracts and reported directly to the owner with clear findings and recommendations.
The result:
Average annual OPEX savings of USD 165,000 per vessel – achieved through a combination of cost challenges, supplier renegotiations, and the correction of maintenance and procurement practices that had gone unquestioned for years.
Savings:
USD 165,000 per vessel per year.
CASE 2:
VFD Retrofit
Retrofit project
USD 37,500
in annual savings from a single installation.
The situation:
A vessel was running seawater pumps and engine room fans at fixed speeds regardless of actual demand – a common and costly inefficiency. The owner wanted to explore energy-saving options but needed independent advice on what would actually deliver results.
What we did:
NMP assessed the vessel’s energy consumption profile and identified Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) installations on the seawater pumps and engine room fans as the strongest opportunity. We specified the scope of work, managed the tendering process, oversaw the installation/commisioning, and verified the performance results post-commissioning.
The result:
Annual energy savings of USD 37,500 per vessel – with a short payback period and savings that continue for the lifetime of the equipment.
Savings:
USD 37,500 per vessel per year.
CASE 3:
CLO Optimization
Performance and optimization
USD 10,000
saved per vessel through smarter lubrication.
The situation:
Cylinder lube oil consumption is an area where costs can drift significantly without proper interaction. On many vessels, CLO feed rates are set conservatively and never revisited – resulting in overconsumption that adds up to a meaningful cost over the course of a year and risk of increased wear.
What we did:
NMP conducted a detailed review of cylinder lube oil consumption across the client’s fleet, benchmarking feed rates against engine maker recommendations, actual running conditions, and industry best practice. We identified where consumption was above optimal levels and worked with the management team and crew to implement adjustments safely and systematically.
The result:
Average annual savings of USD 10,000 per vessel – achieved without compromising engine condition or safety margins.
Savings:
USD 10,000 per vessel per year.
CASE 4:
Fuel Optimization
Performance and optimization
USD 14,000
saved per vessel through focus on engine performance.
The situation:
Fuel is the single largest operating cost for most vessels.
Even modest improvements in consumption translate directly into significant savings but achieving those improvements requires structured monitoring, the right data, and the experience to know what to do with it.
What we did:
Implemented a structured main engine performance and external hull monitoring program across the client’s fleet.
Established consumption baselines, identified vessels where performance was below expectation, and worked with managers and crews to address the root causes covering engine adjustments, hull condition, and operational practices.
The result:
Average annual fuel savings of USD 14,000 per vessel – a result that compounds significantly across a fleet of multiple vessels.
Savings:
USD 14,000 per vessel per year
